Fixed Income Trader

A vacancy has arisen for a Fixed Income Dealer and Portfolio Construction role with a leading Asset Manager.

The primary responsibilities of the role are:

  • Portfolio construction of fixed income portfolios ensuring funds are aligned to model
  • Implementation of Investment strategy
  • Maintaining counterparty relationships
  • Monitoring daily cash flows and modelling the funds affected
  • Liaise with business analyst in respect of model/benchmark maintenance, upgrades, discrepancies and amendments
  • Liaise with operations with respect to the transition of fixed income instruments, set up of portfolios and realignment to models
  • Run various reports for fund managers for example credit exposures, interest rate risk exposure, etc. when required
  • Trade execution/dealing and bookover of the full spectrum of Fixed Income products, government bonds, parastatal bonds, corporate bonds, inflation linked bonds and fixed income derivatives (e.g. futures, options and swaps) in both the primary and secondary markets. Cash funds would entail placement of funds on call, buying/selling Treasury Bills term NCD’s, corporate CP, conduits and floating rate notes in the primary and secondary markets
  • Obtaining best execution on all trades timeously; booking in the front office system and providing reasons for any delays in trades being executed
  • Taking responsibility for all day to day dealing activity in money market and fixed income Instruments, including derivative instruments
  • Acting as liaison between Portfolio managers and the market place and providing feedback concerning market developments and the timing of transactions
  • Informing the Fund managers of flows during course of the day
  • Purchases and sales of holdings (international funds) along with the associated foreign exchange transactions would form part of the dealing responsibilities
  • Liaison with other related areas within the company to include:

o Operations regarding static data, trade queries, booking and settlement issues

o Business Support, to ensure that instrument data integrity, including accurate pricing and correct static data, is maintained

o Compliance and any other areas as needed

  • Input into the investment decision making process from all members of the fixed income team is encouraged particularly in respect of the timing of trades, bank axes and market anomalies
  • Check to confirm that all outstanding orders within the dealing system have been transferred or are to be executed the following trading day
  • Assist other members of the Fixed Income Team with data collection and model maintenance where required
  • Assist the Namibian management/team with queries and reports as required
  • Provide input to presentations to clients
  • Comply with all dealing and trading related policies, amongst others

Basic job requirements

  • Minimum 2/3 years of experience working as a dealer within a front office fixed income team or similar in financial services on either the buy or sell-side
  • Fixed Income portfolio construction experience will be beneficial
  • Adept at numerical work, building spreadsheets and organizing data
  • Able to work as part of a team, to tight deadlines with accuracy under pressure
  • Familiarity with all fixed income securities
  • Studying towards CFA/FRM or open to studying towards CFA (CFA level 1 would be highly advantageous)
  • RE5 exam would be beneficial
