Accountant – CBD

Our client, a property investment and development company base in Cape Town, is seeking an Accountant to join their team. They focus on property investments and developments within the Western Cape, primarily Cape Town CBD. As the property head office Accountant, you will take charge of all property related accounting, finance and reporting functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Develop and maintain financial controls and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Forecast and monitor cash flow, budget variances, and financial performance metrics, providing regular updates and insights to head office team.
  • Prepare and analyse financial forecasts, budget projections, and financial models to support strategic decision-making.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, tax advisors, legal advisors, SARS and banks.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial planning activities, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and standards, ensuring compliance and implementing necessary updates.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to other departments, helping to drive business growth and profitability.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required by management.
  • Assist operational teams such a maintenance, developments and design with budgeting, forecasting and planning.
  • Support the CFO and CIO with property acquisition and investment due diligence.

Experience and Skills:

  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role, property experience beneficial.
  • Degree in Finance or Accounting non-negotiable.
  • Xero accounting software experience non-negotiable.
  • CA (SA), SAIPA, or CIMA beneficial, not a requirement.
  • Must have an interest in the property industry.
  • A highly-organised individual who is responsible to manage tasks on their own.
  • Accurate hard-worker, efficient, high attention to detail.
  • Incredibly neat and have extensive experience with reporting to Executives.
  • Must be good with people, work well in a team and have leadership skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite, strong Microsoft Excel skills
