Our client is a well-established, fast growing South African logistics and supply chain solutions provider, delivering transportation, warehousing, distribution, and integrated supply chain services to a diverse customer base. The company is recognized for its operational excellence and customer-focused approach.
Reporting to the Head of Accounts and working closely with operational, commercial and procurement teams, the Financial Manager will take full ownership of the financial statements, from revenue through to the balance sheet in addition to the day-to-day finance function.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Day-to-day finance function for the division, end to end
Oversee month-end close, journals, accruals, provisions and cut-off
Management accounts, financial reports, reconciliations and variance explanations
Assist with budgets, forecasts, audit preparation and finance projects as required
Open-Book, Rate Card & Revenue Assurance
Own the open-book (cost-plus) reporting to the customer
Manage the rate card and contractual pricing
Match revenue to the underlying cost and activity, and report profitability by segment
Ensure revenue is billed accurately and completely against contracted rates
Commercial & Cost Analysis
Analyse the division’s cost base
Analyse vehicle utilisation, productivity and operational cost drivers
Partner with operations, commercial and procurement to support commercial needs
Working Capital & Cash Flow
Monitor cash flow, working capital, payment planning and financial commitments
Manage debtors exposure to a concentrated customer base
Manage creditors, supplier payments and subcontractor-carrier settlements
Controls, Stock, Tax & Compliance
Maintain and improve financial controls, approval processes and reporting workflows
Oversee stock and related reconciliations and controls
Support fixed-asset and fleet records, vehicle costing and depreciation
Ensure VAT compliance, accurate tax treatment and proper supporting documentation
Requirements
BCom in Accounting / Finance / Financial Management.
CA(SA) preferred or CIMA
2–3 yrs’ post-qualification commercial experience in a Financial Manager or similar role
Strong full-function accounting with ownership of financial statements and management accounts, and reconciliations capability
Strong VAT, internal control, cash flow, expense management and reporting knowledge
Team supervision or finance team coordination experience
Sage Evolution or similar accounting system experience
Experience with open-book / cost-plus contracts, rate-card administration, revenue assurance, profitability / route analysis or managing a major customer account (advantageous)
Operational Finance in Logistics, transport, distribution, manufacturing, FMCG (advantageous)
Exposure to multi-entity group structures (advantageous)
Advanced Excel skills; Power Query / Power BI (advantageous)
Familiarity with operational unit costing (cost / km, cost / load) and open-book / cost-plus reporting (advantageous)
