Our client is an established firm of Chartered Accountants (SA) in Milnerton, providing accounting, tax, and advisory services to a diverse SME client base.
 
This role involves taking ownership of a significant portion of the firm's client portfolio, from source data through to financial statements ready for review by the Managing Principals. This is a hands-on role in a small team with limited junior support, so the successful candidate must be comfortable doing the work themself, not just delegating it. You will be expected to manage your workload without micromanagement as well as take full responsibility for meeting all submission deadlines across tax, statutory, and compliance obligations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare annual financial statements (IFRS for SMEs) in Draftworx, including reconciliation of financial statement items to statutory submissions

  • Process accounting records in Sage, Pastel, and Xero to trial balance, including bank, creditor, and debtor reconciliations

  • Prepare and submit income tax returns (ITR14, ITR12, ITR12T), provisional tax (IRP6s), donations tax returns, and dividend tax returns via SARS eFiling

  • Process payroll and submit statutory returns: VAT (VAT201s), PAYE (EMP201s), and annual reconciliations (IRP5/EMP501)

  • Manage client communication, obtain information, and meet deadlines

  • Handle SARS correspondence, objections, and dispute resolution

  • Conduct tax research (general and specific)

  • Manage CIPC annual returns and company secretarial compliance

  • Ad hoc projects relating to practice management

  • Any other duties required in a professional accounting environment

Requirements

  • Professional Accountant (SA) with SAIPA, or equivalent

  • 5+ years' experience in a South African accounting practice

  • Proficiency in Draftworx (non-negotiable)

  • Strong working knowledge of Sage, Pastel, and Xero, and SARS eFiling

  • Working knowledge of the Income Tax Act, Tax Administration Act, VAT Act, and Companies Act

  • Experience dealing directly with SARS on client matters

  • Able to manage multiple clients independently with minimal supervision

  • Self-driven and proactive
