A privately owned very successful South African food company that focuses on food retail and distribution, serving a broad customer base through physical stores, distribution centres, and online channels.
The Commercial Financial Manager will act as a strategic finance partner driving growth across two key business units. The successful candidate will provide deep financial insights to influence decision-making and optimize performance in a highly competitive and challenging environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead FP&A for merchandise, including budgeting, forecasting, performance tracking, and scenario analysis
Partner with leadership to align financial targets with commercial and growth strategies
Deliver margin, pricing, rebate, and cost-to-serve insights to support data-driven decisions
Monitor sales volume, margin per kg, and margin rands, identifying corrective actions
Manage business unit expenses, including salary and travel budgets, and track variances
Support KPI dashboard development with the Data team for real-time performance visibility
Ensure financial controls, risk management, and compliance across pricing, suppliers, and credit exposure
Requirements
BCom in Finance/Accounting
CA(SA) or CIMA qualification (preferred)
5–7 years’ in financial management, within retail, wholesale, or FMCG
Strong understanding of merchandise finance, margin management, and B2B commercial models
Advanced proficiency in Excel, financial modelling, and BI tools (Power BI, QLIK)
Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive commercial outcomes
Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills
Ability to operate in a competitive, high-pressure, dynamic retail environment
High accuracy, attention to detail, and strong administrative capability
Deep understanding of retail and food service economics (preferred)
